  Brief Historical Background

During the pre-Spanish period there was a couple Fernando and Quinay, both emigrants from Palapag, Northern Samar, who settled in Farm lot along the coast between Bahay stream and Masaquipot creek, located less than half a kilometer east of what is now the town proper of Mondragon. They cleared the forest, planted food crops till they reached the eastern bank of a river.

Time went on and as their families grows in number, they organized themselves into a barangay which they named “QUINAY” the site of which is near the mouth of what they later on called Mondragon River. Mondragon became the Poblacion until its inhabitants until the coming of Spaniards who exercised sovereignty over the inhabitants. “QUINAY” was later on called to “MONDRAGON”, the name given to the residence of the parish priest under whose jurisdiction the community was then ruled and subjected.   Pre record from the national archives in manila, Mondragon was created as Poblacion sometime in September 22, 1883 during the Spanish period.
